NEW YORK FASHION WEEK VENUES

If people thought that the Spring/Summer 2009 shows during New York Fashion Week entailed a lot of running around between the tents and locations scattered around the city, this upcoming season we will see even more of that as more and more designers are opting for off-site locations.

One of the popular off-site locations in previous years has been famed hair salon Bumble & Bumble’s Meatpacking District location, but that venue is not one of the four off-site venues that are an option this season. To further complicate things, IMG Fashion, who has said they would introduce a venue near Bryant Park for fashion presentations, decided to hold-off on this until the September Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion Week shows.

This season Bryant Park’s going rates for the Tent, the Promenade and the Salon are said to be $48,000, $38,000 and $28,000, respectively, for the space alone.

While that leaves some very big names dropping-out including Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, DKNY, Carmen Marc Valvo and Reem Acra – all of which have been splashed around papers for the last few weeks, there are a few who after not showing at the tents will be back — Tommy Hilfiger, J.Mendel, Adam Lippes, and after her first successful show at the tents last year, Charlotte Ronson will show once again. All in all WWD is reporting that 59 designers have committed to the tents and eight are on board for off-site venues.
