Would You Buy This Balenciaga Shopper for $1,820?

From the brand that brought you a $2,145 version of the blue Ikea bag you use to carry clothes to and from the laundromat and a $1,100 tote that looks basically the same as the kind you get free with purchase of a pair of Aldo shoes (only fancier) comes another très chic, très, très expensive remake of an everyday shopping bag.

As part of their takeover of retailer/fashion destination Colette (R.I.P.), Balenciaga just released a special edition shopping bag costing a mere €1,595 (tax included) which translates to roughly $1,820 American (shipping not included).

Like its earlier white-leather-as-opposed-to-normal-paper shopper, this one is made in Italy, done in 100 percent calfskin and features nappa leather handles, silver metal hardware and double zip fastening. In other words, though it looks like a regular shopping bag, it really, really isn’t.

If you happen to have a cool two grand burning a hole in your pocket, the bags are still in stock on colette.fr. If you choose to hold out, Balenciaga’s Colette collab continues through August 5 and, based on current trends, promises more laughably overpriced items.
