KELLY FROM BLACKDOG FINDS: BLOGGER STYLE

Name: Kelly Bannen

Blog: Blackdog Finds

Age: 27

Location: Maine

Occupation: University employee by day, Blogger in my free time

I started my blog in August 2009.  The basic concept is the same: showcasing outfits and thrift finds.  Back in the beginning, though, I’d just post something without much thought about what I was writing or why.  Now I have a better idea of what my blog is about and how I’d like to have it regarded in the blogging world.

How would you describe your individual blog posts, and how would you describe the vision for your blog as whole?

The majority of my posts are either daily outfit pictures, or pictures of things I’ve thrifted, and then there are some features thrown in there like how-to’s, or my renditions of designer looks.  I’d like to envision my blog as a source of down-to-earth style for girls like me that  A) don’t have a huge budget, B) don’t live in a glamorous metropolis, and C) enjoy thrifting and sustainable fashion.

What fashion sites do you read daily?

I’ve been reading Jessica Shroeder’s blog What I Wore from its beginning.  She’s a big source of inspiration to me.  Some of my other daily reads: Blue Collar Catwalk, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Fashion for the Economically Challenged, Who What Wear, to name just a few off a long list.

One of the reasons I started my blog was to explore my personal style and really try to push myself to dress creatively and thoughtfully.  I’m still trying to figure out my style, but I know so far that I like chic and classic comfort.  I like to be relatable via my clothing. I never dress over-the-top or super glamorous – but I really, truly enjoy others who do.

Who are your favorite labels and designers?

I love Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania line; it always has a retro vibe, which I dig. I admire Diane von Furstenberg and Dries Van Noten for their use of pattern and color.

What would you never leave your house without?

Hmmm…something I can use to put my hair up, like an elastic or clip.  I have really long hair and if I don’t have something I can use to put it up, I become fixated on wanting my hair out of the way.

I’d love to be still working happily on my blog.  The dream would be that it’s my full-time work.  I’d like to have a thriving Etsy shop in which I sell vintage finds.  I hope I am still as happy in 5 years as I am right now.
