Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2011

With his Resort 2011 collection, Salvatore Ferragamo creative director Massimiliano Giornetti once again shows that he knows how to please the brand's core customer while staying true to his own aesthetic. The resulting looks are conservative with just a hint of discreet, yet pulled together, edginess.

Moschino Cheap and Chic Resort 2011

In the past few seasons, Moschino seems to have lost some of its quirky edge. The Italian brand is still one of my favorites, but the tongue in cheek kooky nature seems to be have been significantly downplayed in the last few collections. The Moschino aesthetic I’ve long loved is now much more prominent in the Italian label’s diffusion line, Moschino Cheap & Chic. So too was the case for the Moschino Cheap & Chic Resort 2011 collection, where the spunky Moschino charm was on full display.

Armani Collezioni Resort 2011

Giorgio Armani continues to play up the nautical trend we’ve seen prominently for a few seasons now. The Armani Collezioni Resort 2011 collection was heavy on both navy colored looks and pinstriped ones, each of which found their way into everything from casual two piece day suits to flowing chiffon gowns.

Gucci Resort 2011

When designing for brand as high profile as Gucci you're always going to be opening yourself up to a high level of scrutiny, not to mention when you’re following in the footsteps of a visionary like Tom Ford.

Just Cavalli Resort 2011

These days, with so many talented designers seeing their brands flounder and go out of businesses, I’m astounded by the ever-expanding Robert Cavalli empire. Sure, the Italian designer is a pioneer, and one of only few designers that can create an instantly recognizable garment (even in today's sea of leopard), but in these times of restraint it's surprising that shoppers are still turning to Cavalli’s over-the-top prints.

M Missoni Resort 2011

For M Missoni's Resort 2011 collection, designer Angela Missoni channeled 60's mod with cropped, short dresses, headscarves, and belts worn under the chest. It only takes one look at the short dresses - whether it be of the halter, tank or long-sleeved variety - for you to end up with lingering visions of the iconic waif model Twiggy in your head.

Bottega Veneta Resort 2011

It seems fitting that the words Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier used to describe his Resort 2011 collection were "architectural," "graphic," and "clean lines", since they perfectly encapsulate the German designer’s work at the Italian fashion house. For brands like Fendi, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Bottega Veneta that are better known for their handbags […]

Christian Dior Cruise 2011

Black and white retro sunglasses, pastels aplenty (green, purple, yellow pink), dainty little cardigans, and rosette, ruffle, and bow accents made for a lovely Parisian chic cruise wear collection at this year’s Christian Dior Cruise show, held in Shanghai.

Chanel Resort 2011

Karl Lagerfeld sure knows how to generate buzz. I can’t think of one show I rather have attended than his 2011 Resort show for Chanel, which was held in St Tropez.  Ironically, when discussing his collection and location choice, Lagerfeld remarked that “there’s something magical about Saint-Tropez. It’s so easy, and it doesn’t require overcomplicated clothes. It’s not a bling-bling place, it’s a natural place.”
