This season, the Kate Spade girl went uptown, said nail expert Deborah Lippmann. “Kate Spade is always playful and fun, which is reflected in the long, almond shaped shiny nails we created, but for Fall 2014, everything is a little more uptown chic.” Lippmann added that initially the nail team played around with some colorblocked nail art ideas, but ended up settling on a nude called Naked, which happens to be Lippmann’s favorite. “I always feel stronger when I wear it.”

The shiny nails tied into the makeup look, conceived by MAC’s Lyne Desnoyers, who said they wanted “something easy that breathes and is versatile.” The key, she noted, was radiant luminous skin. “There’s nothing as truthful as a clean palette. Primer is key and don’t be afraid of powder.”

As for the hair, it was meant to reflect the show’s inspiration – a trip to Shanghai. Garnier’s hair expert Tommy Bucket told us he “wanted to complement the collection’s beautiful textures and patterns so we used Garnier’s Marvelous Oil on wet hair and then dried it before putting on a heat protecting spray and straightening the hair super straight. We didn’t want any texture.” The hair team then wrapped a piece of leather – secured with a small pin – around a high ponytail or a low one for the models who were wearing hats. The hair was finished with Order, a men’s hairspray, which Buckett said he liked because it’s particularly light, and Disorder, a go-to Garnier product for him because it’s both a wax and a spray.
