Just when editors start to think they’ve seen it all, haute couture ups the ante and brings the game to a whole new level. This year, for instance, Chanel hosted a “Cercle Privé” show inside an art deco-inspired casino resurrected at the Grand Palais. Kristen Stewart opened the show in a black Chanel suit, taking her seat at one of the card tables situated in the middle of the room. She was later joined by Julianne Moore, Lara Stone, Stella Tennant, Jemima Kirke, Rita Ora, Lily-Rose Depp and Vanessa Paradis, among others. As the high rolling gal pals put on their best poker faces, a troupe of models wearing severe bobs and the same black slingback mules trotted out in updated Chanel classics that hit the jackpot. But Chanel wasn’t the only star-studded show of the week. Lupita Nyong’o made a cameo at Christian Dior’s garden party runway in Paris, while Tilda Swinton, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mika gave Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli a standing ovation in Rome.
