Armani Prive Spring 2011 Beauty Trend: Dark Purple Lips

Nothing gets us more excited than fashion season, and this year is no exception. Although fashion week doesn’t start in New York until February, designers and makeup artists have kick started the season in Europe with several breathtaking new looks. Our favorite beauty look from Paris haute couture this week? Dark, matte purple lips at Armani Privé.

To match the electrifying collection, lead makeup artist Linda Cantello glammed the ladies up with deep plum pouts and a jewel on the lower lip to finish. Although we probably won’t be wearing the lip bling in public any time soon, the purple shade was a new trend that could work for the colder seasons. Backstage, artists lined the mouth with purple liner and then filled the lips in with a similar shade.

If you’re interested in trying this gothy-chic look, start by hydrating your lips with a rich balm. After a few minutes, dab away the balm and begin lining your pout in purple. Precision is key with this look, and lining thickly will help prevent any color bleeding. If you’re looking for a liner, try lining Make Up Forever’s new Matte Dark Plum lip liner ($17). Then fill-in lips with a dark, plum purple lipstick, applying several layers to get that bold runway color. One of our favorites is Dolce & Gabbana’s classic cream lipstick in Amethyst ($30), which can be sheer or dark depending on how much you apply. Finally, dab a small amount of concealer around your mouth to define the color even more and cover up any smudges.
