Sleek, Leather-Wrapped Ponytails at Carolina Herrera Gave Models an Edge

The Carolina Herrera Fall 2015 collection was inspired by the light patterns of the sun on water and the ponytail created by Orlando Pita for TRESemmé was designed to contrast the soft layers and wave shapes in the clothing with a bit of an edge.

To prep the hair, Pita used TRESemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth Heat Activated Treatment from root to ends before blow drying it completely straight. TRESemmé Canada lead stylist Susana says, “The look is a sleek ponytail, but we intentionally kept the raking from the medium-tooth comb after layering on TRESemmé TRES Ultra Firm Control Gel from the hairline to mid-shaft, so that it’s not plastered onto the scalp.” The effect was a subtle hit of texture, but the standout detail was definitely the leather wrapping.

“After securing the ponytail with an elastic at the nape of the neck, we wrapped a thin strip of leather starting from about two inches from the elastic, working our way up,” explains Susana. The key is to wrap it tightly, so that it stays in place and then tie it into a small knot behind the elastic around the pony.
