Here’s How to Get Chrissy Teigen’s Intricate Oscars Braid (It’s Easier Than It Looks!)

From Cate Blanchett’s new haircut to Naomi Watts’s tousled lob, the 2016 Oscars had its share of stunning hairstyles. One of the more memorable looks came from Chrissy Teigen. The expectant mother wore an intricate braided hairstyle fashioned by stylist Christian Wood.

The braided updo was the perfect complement to Teigen’s embellished Marchesa gown. According to Wood, the braid had an “undone, yet elegant” aesthetic to contrast the glamour of her crystal-embroidered fishtail dress. Best of all, the braid may look involved, but it’s actually pretty easy to create.

To get the look, start by washing and conditioning hair to prep. Apply mousse throughout the hair, leaving the ends out, then apply TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer to the ends for a soft, voluminous texture. Next, using a round brush, blow dry the hair smooth with a hair dryer while leaving volume at the roots.

Before you begin braiding, separate some hair at the crown of your head and pin it away. Take two one-inch sections on both sides of the ears and braid all the way down while using the fingertips to rub the hair and create texture. Release the hair at the crown and start braiding down the middle. Combine the 5 braids in one hand and secure with an elastic. Using a handful of bobby pins, secure braids for extra hold. Take the lengths of the hair and create a larger braid and secure with an elastic, leaving out the ends at the bottom.

To complete the look, pull out loose pieces around the face for beautiful, airy volume. Rub the braids with fingertips to create a soft texture. Use volumizing hairspray to keep the look in place.
