Steven Meisel Photographs Ports 1961’s Beautiful or Boring Fall 2020 Campaign

Whether photographing magazine covers or advertising campaigns, Steven Meisel almost always delivers. There’s been a serious Meisel drought over recent months, but thanks to Ports 1961’s latest campaign, we finally have our much-needed fix. After a genius Spring 2020 campaign, Karl Templer and Fabien Baron invite the legendary lensman back for Fall 2020. Mona Tougaard, Sacha Quenby, Felice Noordhoff, Signe Veiteberg and Sora Choi each get their own ads all shot before a gray studio backdrop.

The campaign proved to be just what (the majority of) our forum members were craving. “Ooh, must say I’m thrilled to finally see Steven’s name this season! As expected, it’s already amazing,” raved aracic.

“Stunning! Looks better than many magazine covers released this year,” applauded Urban Stylin.

While apple simply called it “fabulous.”

“Stunning. Framing, lighting, cast, everything. Nothing groundbreaking, but stunning nonetheless,” said Vitamine W.

“Boring. Always the same with Meisel nowadays,” voiced a far from impressed Scotty.

“This is so boring. People are going to take it only because Meisel is behind the camera,” echoed avonlea002.

“It’s beautiful, simple, boring, but it’s Meisel so it’s good boring,” defended Lola701.

In the same frame of mind was vogue28: “The vast, VAST difference between Steven Meisel’s studio shoots with a gray backdrop and that of other photographers is that they have great depth. There’s always a sense of pure and unapologetic fashion and the styling here from Templer is exceptional. No one in 2020 comes close to Meisel.”
