Channel the 60s Trend from the High Street

The Sixties is renowned for being one of the most important eras where social norms and conventions were broken, included the breaking of many fashion traditions. We saw the introduction of jaw-dropping miniskirts and risky PVC dresses, to name but a few. As the Spring 2013 runways played a particular homage to this important fashion era gone by, we thought that we would too, by selecting our top five Sixties-inspired high street pieces to help you to get into the swing of things!

The swing dress is an absolute must if you want to truly get into the spirit of this trend, and most are so versatile that you can easily take your look from day through to the night. Love Label has just launched quite a few Sixties-inspired pieces via Very.co.uk, and one of our favs has to be the illusion colourblock swing dress (£32) that’s also perfect for hiding a multitude of sins. As always, ASOS also has a great piece in the form of its 60s panelled dress, which is currently on promotion for £30. Or, if you’re more of a lace lover, try on TFNC’s floral lace fluted mini dress for style, which is a complete steal for just £13.50.

Nothing screams Sixties more than a cool mini, be it a skirt or trendy dress. Topshop’s flocked polka dot mini skirt (£38) nails this trend perfectly, and you’ll also be pleased to know that it isn’t too scarily short. Or, opt for ASOS’ mini dress instead with chic monochrome triangle jacquard mini (£45).

The high street is awash with the Sixties trend, so, you’ll find it extra easy to feel like you’ve just stepped right off that Louis runway.
