ALL ABOUT GUINNESS

Two separate Guinness ladies have been making a splash lately.

First up, Daphne Guinness. The French beauty will release a fragrance come September 4th at Dover Street Market, and worldwide on September 18th.  This is a collaboration with Comme des Garcons Parfum, with whom she inked a deal back in 2007.

The noted Haute Couture collector and style icon’s fragrance will be priced at $140 for 50 ml and will be aptly named ‘Daphne’. The fragrance is reportedly inspired by the socialite’s past. Guinness says that she’s always made her own perfume by combining essential oil and alcohol.  She added that for her, scent is time travel – “it takes you away from the everyday and you are transported to something in your past. It’s a very mysterious thing. It’s magical.”

Guinness worked with Givaudan perfumer Antoine Lie and she (supposedly) naturally gravitated towards the most expensive ingredients, hence the high price tag that rivals that of Hermes. The result is a perfume with top notes that include bitter orange, incense and saffron; middle notes of rose centifolia, Tunisian jasmine, tuberose and iris, and a base of patchouli, oud, amber and vanilla. Christian Astuguevieille was the project’s creative director.

As for the other Guinness making the news, it’s none other than fashion designer Lulu Guinness. The designer celebrated her 20th anniversary in fashion with a grand celebration at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on Monday, June 8. The quirky fashion designer was dressed in a purple cartoon -inspired Giles Deacon dress that the designer paired with a lipstick-red Lulu Guinness clutch. Among the guests that attended were Lauren Laverne, Jade Parfitt, William Tempest, Jasmine Guinness, Camilla Rutherford, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Jo Wood, Harold Tillman, Katy Perry, and Florence Welch.
