This Hamilton-Themed Carpool Karaoke Deserves a Tony Award

The Tony Awards are upon us. This week, James Corden used his karaoke-mobile to plug his emceeing the star-studded event — and we’re not mad. Carpool Karaoke reached new, masterful heights when Broadway legends Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, Jane Krakowski and Jesse Tyler Ferguson hopped in The Late Late Show host’s minivan.

Miranda naturally sat shotgun, because the only thing that could abate the particular brand of road rage attached to Midtown traffic is a literal front row seat to Hamilton. And while the playwright-slash-songwriter admitted this year’s ceremony lacks a certain mystique, given that popular opinion’s already spoken, if the proceedings are anything like this karaoke session, we’ll still tune in.

Highlights include Corden slaying Lafayette’s “Guns and Ships” verse, a heart-rending nod to Rent (we awww’ed along with the actors) and an epic rendition of “One More Day” from Les Misérables (Jane Krakowski kills it as Eponine while Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Audra McDonald perform a goo-goo eyed duet). Does anyone else smell a Carpool Karaoke: The Musical in the making?
