Rebecca Minkoff Resort 2011

I first discovered Rebecca Minkoff while shopping her apparel collection at a now defunct Williamsburg boutique called N7. This was a few years ago, and I completely fell in love with the designer’s sexy-cool, downtown meets uptown aesthetic.

I bought a little black dress with shoulder cut-outs that day, and I still wear it now. If anything, the dress has become more on-trend then it was back when I bought it.

This is especially true given that the Resort 2011 collection had cut-outs reminiscent of that 2001/2002 piece. A dress in the designer’s current collection, ‘The Hurley’, is also a nod to one of Minkoff’s former designs.

I’ve never been a big fan of Minkoff’s handbags, which is what she is predominately known for. They’re cute, wearable everyday bags, but nothing special enough to splurge on.

Minkoff’s strength is in her apparel, and although she took a break from designing ready-to-wear for for a while, she returned a few seasons ago.

For her Resort 2011 collection, the designer showed a range of day and evening wear looks, including draped dresses, tops with back cut-outs, leather vests, crisp button downs, jeweled neckline dresses, and a fur miniskirt.

As for accessories, a variety of quilted bags were shown in a range of colors. They weren’t terribly original, being reminiscent of Miu Miu and Balenciaga bags, but they’ll surely hold a high appeal for Minkoff’s contemporary customer looking for an affordable everyday bag.
Some jewelry, including the designer’s signature studded bracelets, were also on display.
