Angel Sanchez Resort 2011 Collection

Venezuelan fashion designer Angel Sanchez’s 2011 Resort Collection is his first attempt at designing for a youthful resort market.

Best known for his bridal and evening wear, Sanchez continues his signature aesthetic of creating innovative architectural silhouettes that reflect contemporary, classic lines.

“I have established myself as a designer of bridal and evening wear, so I decided to expand by business to a younger client by designing a more youthful resort collection,” he says. “I am continuing to keep my signature look of using geometric elements: feminine, but not too embellished.”

Always designing with the feminine silhouette in mind, this collection emphasizes the natural curves of the feminine physique, while adding a bit of a surprise in the detail.

The fringe-embellished goddess jersey gowns are a nice surprise in the collection. “For resort I made the fringe the same color as the jersey which gives the jersey more fluidity,” he says. “This entire grouping is very sensual, and a new departure for me. This look is great for resort destination parties.”

Sanchez also combines hard and soft fabrics in this collection. “I have always liked mixing textures. The metallic sequined parts of the garment lend a great shiny effect when combined with the matte,” he says. “So in this collection I am combining sequined elements with monochromatic, polished cottons, jersey, tulle and organza to give the garment a bold look.”

There were several standouts in this collection, however, Sanchez’s brown silk jersey cocktail dress with asymmetrical draping inset with fringe and his black trikado pencil skirt with a sequined, organza black top were the ballpark winners.
