Jean Paul Gaultier S/S 2011: Paris Fashion Week

It’s only fitting that a rock and roll inspired collection would be opened by Gossip’s lead singer, Beth Ditto. Jean Paul Gaultier is an artist who pushes the norm, and he is doing so with his “plus sized” model line-up. The collection seemed to be inspired by Joan Jett, with her music playing in the background, and all the models adorning wigs with her signature hairstyle.  The clothes were punk and had a lot of attitude and color.

There was a plethora of leather, mesh, and lace-up boots that were paired with 80s shoulder jackets and skintight, lace leggings. Prints were pretty, but looked edgy when paired with black and layered over each other.

The collection started off in a mad print frenzy, then continued with a look of tailored, monochromatic suits in leather and denim, and ended in a haze of pastel prints.

The looks were all over the place, but maybe that was the point?  They all seemed to be styles that Joan Jett might currently have in her closet – or at least what Gaultier imagines she has.
