G Star Fall 2011 Runway Review

Big is better as displayed at the G Star Fall 2011 runway show last night. Dramatically oversized pants in denim, wool, and even sleeping bag material were a major component of the lineup. Fitted waists, billowing legs, and genie pant bottoms were paired with fitted vests, shirts and tailored jackets.

The collection consisted mostly of neutral colors in shades of gray, brown, and dark blue. From flat wools to shimmery fabrications, mixing contrasting fabrics and textures was a definite theme. Leather vests and jackets were prominent and were worn with denim and wool. Full length dusters paired with short, denim cuttoffs also added to the drama of size oppositions. There was a slight military inspiration and, of course, tons of designs in denim.

Showing both men and womenswear in one lineup, the focus of the collection was on the new silhouette and futuristic fabrications. Overall, the pieces were very sophisticated and innovative with designs that seemed over the top, but were actually quite wearable.
