BCBGMAXAZRIA Fashion Week Diaries, Spring 2012: a tFS Exclusive with Lubov Azria

Lubov AzriaLubov Azria, BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Chief Creative Officer and wife of designer Max Azria, gives The Fashion Spot an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek at her unway process leading up to NYFW. Her diary gives a daily account of the final planning stages of the Spring 2012 collection at Lincoln Center.

As we finished our last day of casting, we simultaneously continued styling and fitting the runway looks for our runway show on Thursday. The process is quite detailed as I join the team of designers and seamstresses to go through each runway look and make alterations to better fit the model’s body. Every item is carefully examined to ensure the slits are positioned correctly, every seam and strap lay nicely on the body, and that the fabric is adequately lined. The model then walks in each look so our team can determine if the desired effects are achieved, such as flowing fabrics and slits showing the legs, just to name a couple. As pictures are compiled of all the looks, they are placed on boards where the team can get a feel for the collection as a whole and see how the pieces work together. This meticulous process is so important to the craftsmanship of each garment and the impact of our show. We are so proud of this collection and all the hard work and dedication that everyone has contributed. We absolutely cannot wait to unveil our collection this week!

BCBG casting

Only one more day until our runway show! Today was so productive, as we finalized the music, completed the first round of inspiration verbiage for our press packets, and put together picture boards to show how each look is styled for the show. 63 models were called back yesterday and by the end of the day our cast was chosen for our runway show. We are all very happy with our cast. The most important characteristics that we were looking for when casting were not about looks or size, but about confidence and personality. It is key that the model owns the garments she’s wearing like they are her own.

We also had a successful day of fittings, finalizing all looks for the show. Now it’s all up to our talented team of seamstresses to execute each look to perfection. With the garments being completed, we were able to move on to hair and make up. A meeting took place today where Neil Moodie from Bumble & Bumble and Charlotte Willer from Maybelline New York brought their talented team to style innovative spring trends for hair and make up. We count on the expertise of the specialists for the hair and make up to bring another edge to the collection. Hair and make up trends are an important aspect to the show because they complete our vision and tie everything together. We can’t wait for you to see it!

BCBG Spring 2012 show

Today was our BCBGMAXAZRIA runway show at Mercedes Benz Fashion week where we revealed our Spring 2012 collection and we are thrilled about the outcome. We were up early doing last minute preparations and getting some coverage of the models getting ready. Chairs were prepped with press packets and our new BCBGMAXAZRIA perfume, camera crews pilled in the building, and clothes (the main attraction!) were wheeled in. The energy in the room was electric as the audience began to trickle in, and before we knew it, the entire house was packed; not a seat went empty. Lights dimmed, a tribal-meets-urban blend of music started and the show began. As attendees stared intently, the models walked strongly down the runway while the dresses flowed with the movement of their bodies.

After the show, a rush of celebrities and press entered the backstage area. We received such a great response, we couldn’t be more grateful for the support of our loyal fans. Tonight we will celebrate at our Fashion’s Night Out events at our Herve Leger store and our BCBGMAXAZRIA store on 40th and 5th in New York City. With one show down, we move on to the Herve Leger show, showcasing on Tuesday, September 13. More to come!

Our Spring 2012 shows have officially come to an end and we can now reflect on the journey of how we got here. If you have been following our updates, you can imagine how incredible it feels to have completed this process, which is just the beginning of the life of the collection. There is so much love and dedication that has gone into every aspect of this collection and we couldn’t have done it without the talented team who put their all into this collection.

To wrap up our Fashion Week experience, we are celebrating with all our friends, clients and stylish public figures at our official after party held at in NYC.

We are so grateful and appreciative for all of the love we continue to receive.
