D&G Spring 2012 Runway Review

Just a few moments after showing the Spring 2012 D&G show, Dolce & Gabbana announced that it would be incorporating their lower priced line into their signature line, as was first reported earlier this year. Never one to do anything meekly, the final show was a parade of patterns, colors, flowing boho dresses, and in-your-face layers of gold jewelry and weighty dangling earrings. In an interesting twist, a number of the garments incorporated, or were fashioned out of, scarves that at times echoed Hermes and Versace in their design.

The designers stayed true to their flashy aesthetic and while most of the looks are far from easy to pull off, it was a cohesive collection – not something easy to do with so much mixing and matching of prints going on. As for the accessories, there were a surprising number of stand outs, notably fold-over quilted clutches and peep-toe scarf wrapped shoes.

It’s sad to see the D&G line go, but hopefully in Versus/Christopher Kane style, it will make a comeback in the near future.
