Versus Spring 2012 Runway Review

Christopher Kane has been collaborating with Donatella Versace on the Versus line for five seasons now and for Spring 2012 the collection was shown, for the first time, at Versace’s Via Gesu headquarters making it clear that the house is pushing for its success. The season’s lineup certainly stood up to the loftier than usual expectations for Versus and more so than in any of the past seasons, truly struck as a collaborative effort. Melding the sporty with the sexy, the collection was shown on a basketball-inspired runway and consisted of looks done in a soft color palette of candy-colored pastels with hints of black.

Among the touches most prominently featured were shredded fabrics (for cheerleader-esque – in a good way – looks), shoulder cut-outs (think football player shoulder – but the opposite), zipper pockets on dresses, and ikat-like painterly prints, all of which made for a wearable and fresh collection that many women who want a more reigned-in version of Versace sex appeal will be dying to wear.
