Alexander Wang Fall 2012 Runway Review

As for the collection itself, it was minimalist and heavy on black with a few lighter moments. Most of the looks were monochrome and pieces were, for the most part, fashioned into stiff, almost robotic looks. Ironically, given the show’s cast, most of the models walked the runway with mesh mouth covers, though when the supers took to the runway they ended up taking them off before walking away.

Among the standout pieces were knee-high black boots (sure to be among next season’s must-haves), puffer vests, ankle-length trousers, fringe-accented dresses, ribbed patent leather jackets, and high-shine (sometimes high-slit) outerwear, which appeared almost armor-like and was often worn by the models as dresses. As for handbags, they were covetable as always. The new silhouettes are on the boxy side (somewhat reminiscent of Victoria Beckham’s handbag silhouettes) and came in a variety of sizes.

One thing’s for sure, even clothing and accessories aside, Wang sure knows how to put on a show.
