Helena Christensen does not have any lights in her houses.

The Danish supermodel is so conscious of the effect her electricity use has on the planet that she does everything she can to reduce her carbon footprint.

She said: “I have never had any proper lighting in my houses. I do have a few low-energy bulbs in my homes, but I try to use as little electricity as possible.”

Helena insists she prefers to use alternative methods to light her properties, adding: “I have a lot of candles. I like the cosiness of them.”

Helena, 39, also said she has learned to apply her make-up and get ready in near darkness. She added: “After 20 years of modelling, I can do my make-up in utter darkness. And I grew up in a country where there is no light for half the year.

“But I always have a small mirror with me, so I can check myself when I get outside.”
