PAIRING UP FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Lively and delightful I was lucky enough to meet Charleston, S.C.-based designer Mary Norton at her New York City showroom a few months ago. The talented shoe and handbag designer – whose pieces are highly coveted among the celebrity set — has now partnered with Phil Collins 19 year old daughter, Lily Collins, for an accessories collection. The two first encountered each other last year at nonprofit Lupus L.A.’s Hollywood Bag Ladies luncheon where Collins was the winning bidder on a live auction item for a handbag designed by Norton.

Although Norton usually does not collaborate on collections that the two women hit it off and wanted to collaborate. Norton tells a reporter at WWD that she recalls Collins saying “‘I don’t want a vanity project. Is there any way that we could do something that could give back?’” As a result, through January 2nd, the $895 Lily bag and $425 Jane ballet flats will be available at Mary Norton’s Los Angeles and Charleston stores as well as on marynorton.com. The items are signed and numbered and 20 percent of the proceeds from sales going to charity.

The matching handbag and flats are made of burnished lambskin and come in three colors – gold, chocolate, and fern. The ballet flats were made in honor of Collins’ late grandmother who was a ballet dancer and the handbag contains a removable chain handle and three interior pockets.
