JON ASHE MENSWEAR

Jonas Hegewisch, the German born designer who studied architecture and fashion, is launching a menswear collection, Jon Ashe, for Fall/Winter 2009. The designer says that he draws his inspiration from German and Austrian work wear from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Fittingly, Ashe uses fabrics from small artisanal European mills. His designs often include functional details, varied textures, and durable fabrics.

The designer previously launched a designer bridal and eveningwear firm called Wearkstatt along with his wife, opened his own store in Soho, and has sold to retailers including Barneys and Stanley Korshak in the past. One of the Wearkstatt dresses was included in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

However, after his successful bridal stint, in 2005 the designer decided to relocate with his family to Berlin, where he found time to open a wildly popular Biergarten called Trailerpark in Berlin’s Mitte district (http://www.trailerparkberlin.de/).
