GREAT DESIGNER MOMENTS

There have been some fascinating documentaries profiling fashion greats as of late. First we had Unzipped (the now iconic 1995 documentary centering on fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi), then there was Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, followed by Lagerfeld Confidential, and most recently the moving, must-see documentary from Matt Tyrnauer Valentino: The Last Emperor.

Now Glamour has revealed a new four part series, The Day Before, which will air on four consecutive nights at 10pm on the Sundance Channel starting on Wednesday, September 9 (the day before the start of New York Fashion Week – quelle surprise!). The documentary series will reveal how a handful of the world’s most influential designers cope with the stress of staging a runway show.

Directed by Loïc Prigent (the director responsible for Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton), the series will, according to one of the film’s reps, “cover the global fashion calendar – from Sonia Rykiel’s 40th anniversary celebration in Paris in October to Proenza Schouler in New York in February, Fendi by Karl Lagerfeld in Milan in March, and Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture show in Paris in July – capturing designers at this key moment when creativity and business come together.”

The reps continued by saying that we can expect to see second guessing and re-working by some (Proenza Schouler we would venture to guess?), as well as relaxation and champagne indulgences by others (Karl Lagerfeld, perhaps?).
