FASHION’S NIGHT OUT BUZZ

There has been much buzz lately surrounding Fashion Week – especially the exciting line-up in London – and it all became more acute when word came that, come September 10th, retailers will unite for an event called “Fashion’s Night Out.”

The event, which was announced by Mayor Bloomberg (who was escorted by, among others, Anna Wintour, Zac Posen, Oscar de la Renda, Caroline Herrera, and Vera Wang), will entail everything from special in-store events to parties, personal appearances by designers and celebrities, live music, fashion shows, freebies, charity tie-ins, and extended shopping hours till 11 p.m., encouraging shoppers to spend their hard-earned dollars.

The event will coincide with the start of New York Fashion Week, and so far approximately 100 retails have agreed to participate. “Fashion’s Night Out” will be sponsored by The Council of Fashion Designers of America, American Vogue, and NYC & Co and the initiative was spearheaded by U.S. Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. There will be coordinated promotional T-shirts, whose sales will benefit a September 11 memorial.  Drop-off locations for clothes to benefit HIV/AIDS organizations will also be available.

Some insights into specific events have just been divulged by Vogue’s online site. Various international editions of the glossy will “be out and about offering advice and fashion ideas, designers and celebrities will be making personal appearances – to create the ultimate shopping night out.” They also reveal that in London Alexander McQueen, Topshop, Prada, H&M, Gucci, Selfridges, and Marks & Spencer will all be participating, as will Sogo in Taiwan, GUM in Russia, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, and Barneys New York in New York.

Best of all, Alexander Wang will be on hand at Barneys to teach shoppers “the art of catwalk modeling.”  More revelations to come!
