RODARTE FOR TARGET

I’m floored by what some designers are able to accomplish in such short spans of time.

While many might not be able to imagine the fashion world without Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, the sisters didn’t launch their line (named after their mother’s maiden name), until the Fall of 2005 in Pasadena, CA following their graduation from U.C. Berkeley.

They’ve won countless awards, including the 2008 Swiss Textiles Award (making them the first Americans ever to win the prestigious honor), the CFDA Swarovski Emerging Womenswear Designer in June of 2008 and just one year later, the covetable Womenswear Designer of the Year award. While shoppers can snag items from their line now at high-end retailers like Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Ikram, Jeffrey, and Colette, come December 20th they will be able to do so at Target.

The sisters will join the likes of Erin Fetherston, Paul & Joe, Proenza Schouler, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Thakoon, Tracy Feith, and Jonathan Saunders as the latest designers to collaborate with mega-retailer Target for a Go International limited edition line. The line will consist of 55 holiday dresses and separates, and will be sold in stores nationwide as well as on Target.com through February 6th

Prices will range from $9.99 to $79.99 and a Target spokesperson, Joshua Thomas told WWD that the clothes reflect an “amazing eye for detail. They are very feminine, yet very modern. The collection incorporates a rich mix of patterns and fabrications and everything from sequins and bows to faux fur. The key with Rodarte is layering.”

Given their cult following and how enticing this collection already sounds, I imagine that the Rodarte Go International collection will be one of Target’s most highly anticipated to date and I can’t wait till the first images of their work hit!
