JOY GRYSON’S HANDBAGS

Joy Gryson, who worked for Coach, Marc Jacobs, and Calvin Klein, before starting her own eponymous line of handbags, followed by a collection with Target, and a diffusion line called Olivia Harris, will now be launching a line of bags with MCM called MCM New York. To be sold exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue and the MCM Plaza boutique in New York at the end of August, the line marks the first high-end collaboration for MCM (Modern Creation Munchen), a European label founded in 1976.

The Gryson-designed line is made up of three groups – Sportivo, Notte, and Giorno – and each piece will retail for between $695 and $2,800. On the higher end of the price spectrum will be the bags made with exotic skins (snake-skin, python). No matter the style, all bags are said to be more fashion-forward than the typical monogrammed styles MCM has come to be known for, as the company is trying to expand their reach and target a younger, hipper demographic.

The MCM New York collection will be celebrated with an event hosted by Coco Rocha and Terron Schaefer (Schaefer is Saks’ group senior vice president of creative and marketing), at Saks Fifth Avenue on the 15th of September. Rocha also stars in the line’s ad campaign, shot at New York hotspot, The Standard Hotel, photographed by Cheol Park and styled by Vogue’s Kathryn Neale. We will be attending the launch party, so stay tuned for more details!
