PARIS: KARL LAGERFELD S/S 2010

If one were to attempt to summarize the Spring 2010 collection for Karl Lagerfeld’s namesake label in one word, it would be ‘short’.

Hemlines were raised on skirts and dresses, and the designer showed a plethora of shorts in a number of interesting cuts and fabrications. In what is probably the most saleable collection we have seen for Spring 2010, it seems as if Karl let his other collections cloud his inspiration and fortunately turned out a wonderful hybrid of the youthful Fendi girl with classic Chanel shapes.

Embracing shape, it is a testament to the garments that they manage to create a flattering hourglass silhouette on even the thinnest of models, but not in a way that would add bulk to a size 6 or 8.

Playsuits and structured blazers rounded out the collection, not to mention flats in addition to heels. With a mostly black, white and silver palette, this collection is sure to make its way into the closets of editors and tastemakers, as these staples are what a wardrobe is built upon.
