In recent years Dries Van Noten has rightfully claimed his crown as the king of all things printed.
The past few seasons have been great successes for the designer, but his showing yesterday was met with mixed reviews. While some loved his ethnic world-traveler collection, others thought that it was perhaps shown to placate retailers looking for typical ‘Dries’ pieces. Nevertheless, it was an exploration of the world in one collection.
An extravagant showing, the collection was full of luxe fabrics, eclectic prints, and shockingly wearable individual pieces.
The designer showed a wonderful range of separates and dresses in an endless number of prints and colors. It is no joke that the collection is worldly; it must be noted that one of the fabrics was delivered via donkey to the local courier so that Noten could use it in his collection.
Brights, embellishments, and wonderfully eccentric details were scattered throughout and it would not be a stretch to predict a Grace Coddington concept-shoot inspired by the showing.
Perhaps not as successful as some past collections, Dries Van Noten Spring 2010 is sure to both infiltrate the pages of magazines and the wardrobes of loyalists.
