PARIS: HUSSEIN CHALAYAN S/S 2010

Hussein Chalayan has been branching-out quite a bit lately. Whether by joining Puma, or whether by lending his creative talent to a line of J. Brand jeans sold exclusively at Barneys New York, the designer seems to have managed to balance his very cerebral work at his namesake brand with more commercially viable projects. The question on my mind was whether, for his Spring/Summer 2010 show, whether or not Chalayan would stray from his high-concept aesthetic. The answer was both yes and no.

The expertly draped white jersey gowns and white tailored blazers that Chalayan showed towards the end were particularly salient, and it seems that the British/Turkish designer has finally succeeded in striking a balance between his high brow ideas and easy to wear looks.
