ACE AWARDS

The night’s big honoree, Lady Gaga, made quite the fashionably late entrance when she arrived two hours late to the Accessories Council Excellence Awards held on November 2nd at Cipriani 42nd Street.

The winner of the night’s Stylemaker Award (presented to her by Marc Jacobs) showed-up in semi-thick tights, a long-sleeved velvet shirt, lace over her face, and a painted white body. When the recently named face of the ‘MAC AIDS Fund’ campaign took to the stage, she proceed to fling talcum powder from her hands, causing a cloud of white smoke.

Her 10 minute speech included singling out Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Stephen Gan, David LaChapelle, Mario Testino, and Hedi Slimane as supporters — “Hedi Slimane is a muse for the House of Gaga. He’s like a palm tree in that he shades a girl from New York from the Hollywood sun.”

The most notable part of her speech, however, was when she remarked — “Tonight, I had no gloves, and the outfit needed gloves. So Nicky Formichetti decided to paint me white. That’s what happens when you don’t have the right accessory.”

There’s really no doubt the performer is deserving of this particular award.
