Valentino Shows an Ornate Haute Couture Collection for Fall 2013

It’s hard to imagine what it must feel like to wear a dress that took nearly a 1,000 hour to create – I don’t think I could even handle the anxiety of possibly staining or otherwise tarnishing such a garment. The handiwork that goes into couture isn’t always immediately evident – for example, with Victor & Rolf‘s collection, many of the hours were spend creating deceptively easy curved seams and dimpled insets. At Valentino, however, you could see the countless hours loud and clear.

Once again, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Picciolo referenced the Renaissance and religious dress in their collection, which included a number of heavy, almost tapestry like fabrics, long capes and ornate embroidery. This season also had more approachable looks like red satin dresses and a fluid camel coat worn over a camel dress, all of which will hold both red carpet and real life appeal.
