Monique Lhuillier Spring 2014: A World Where Eveningwear is All You Need

Vibrant, saturated oranges and corals are becoming a bona fide trend for Spring 2014, and Monique Lhuillier had some beautiful iterations in her collection. The electric orange and bright pink were juxtaposed with calming, all white ensembles. The color story of the collection seemed to ebb and flow from calming neutrals to shocking brights culminating with smoky, fiery hues combinations of red and orange and gray and black.

As always, it’s a world where eveningwear is all you need. Even pencil skirts and collars come in rich lace and beaded embellishment. There’s something of occasion dressing, a calling to the red carpet, even in more staid ensembles. This was a very detailed, textured, layered collection. All crafted with the detail and delicacy of flower petals. While florals were used somewhat sparingly, the dresses still had the feel of a bouquet of hot house blooms.

Lhuillier delivered the consistency that has made her bridalware so legendary without becoming complacent or resting on past formulas. This collection felt more modern than her work has in seasons past. It seemed strident, as if she were leaning in at a cultural moment when it is particularly relevant.
