Jonathan Saunders Spring 2014: A Little Too Much

High-shine fabrics, 70s-inspired curved colorblocking and layering of contrasting colors and textures gave the eyes a lot to take in at this season’s Jonathan Saunders show.

It wasn’t the designer’s strongest outing and a number of the pieces — especially those done in lace, with sheer panels or with brown-toned colorblocking — appeared dated, rather than modern takes on vintage classics. Similarly, ombré looks and those with oversized floral patterns lacked the sophistication one associates with the price points at which Saunders retails. There was, however, more success in the designer’s monochrome Bermuda shorts and wide metallic shorts.
