Ralph Rucci Delivers Some Distinctive Details for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Scene: Peep Kate Lanphear and Vogue‘s Chloe Malle sitting pretty in the front row.

The Inspiration: We’re thinking a mash-up of 90s athlete and warrior.

The Look: Sleek, sporty silhouettes with sometimes baffling details (under-boob cut-outs among other skin-revealing panels along with sheer maroon ombre jumpsuits). Also, a bit of a warrior vibe, with an emblem-covered leather coat and red jacket as well as an artsy skirt covered in a likeness of red paint, which from afar resembles bacon, but upon closer inspection, blood. It wasn’t completely confounding, though, as there were certainly appealing garments. A 90s-recalling tank dress with the straps having already slipped off the shoulders was appropriately sexy, and the mildly patchwork olive/black leather dress was lovely.

The Accessories: Standouts include over-the-knee boots and sheer, fringed moto gloves.

The Beauty: Slicked-back straight hair and a serious cat eye.

The Takeaway: Random cut-outs do not a sexy (or sensical) garment make.
