One Minute With … GEORGINE Designer Georgine Ratelband

She may have just graduated from Milan’s Istituto Europeo di Design in 2011, but Georgine Ratelband‘s three-year-old eponymous label is already gaining a strong following thanks to its sophisticated aesthetic. We chatted with the promising up-and-comer before her 70s-influenced collection hit the runway.

theFashionSpot: What will you do right after your show ends?

Georgine Ratelband: Give my friends and family a little bit of attention…actually, I guess I have to clean up first and of course, the after party!

tFS: Do you have any guilty pleasures when you’re procrastinating?

GR: Too many!

tFS: What was your inspiration this season?

GR: It started with a recent trip to Koh Samui. I spent all day in my bikini, and then for dinner I would just layer on some high-waist jeans or a caftan — it was all so effortless and sexy.

tFS: We went to Koh Samui last year! It really is inspiring.

GR: Really? That’s amazing! We got lucky because we went in May, which is their rainy season, but we got gorgeous weather. It inspired this idea of a 70s glam jet-set woman. Someone like Loulou de la Falaise or Bianca Jagger, and all the other women who descended onto Saint-Tropez during the 70s. I was also inspired by the photography of Slim Aarons and Helmut Newton.

tFS: How did your inspiration translate into your color palette?

GR: I used golds and rich creams along with shimmering metallics and fresh mint.

tFS: Can you single out some pieces?

GR: Standouts are the swimwear, which is eveningwear-inspired, and the beaded chiffon caftans.

tFS: What’s the most stressful part about the whole Fashion Week process?

GR: You guys! Answering all of your questions!

tFS: That’s lucky if that is the most stressful part!

GR: (Laughs) no…it’s really stressful making sure everything gets done in time and is perfectly flawless.
