One Minute With … Cushnie et Ochs

Michelle Ochs and Carly Cushnie

Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs are known for their sexy, curve-hugging silhouettes and yesterday’s Fall 2015 showing at Milk Studios didn’t disappoint. The monochromatic collection had plenty of cut-outs, plunging necklines and 70s inspiration, giving us a glam Studio 54 feel. We caught up with the design duo after the show to talk inspiration, favorite pieces and more.

theFashionSpot: Tell us about your inspiration for fall.

Carly Cushnie: We were looking at a lot of satellite images of Earth and so we kind of wanted to create this weightless gravity feel, so everything is kind of light, a lot of movement. There was still the body-con, that was still there, but it’s a little more fluid for us this season. We played with a lot of different textures like the open mesh because when you look down on Earth, there are all these different textures and colors, which is where all the colors came from, but there are also some very geometric shapes that we honed in on.

Michelle Ochs: But even though it’s very graphic looking, it’s made of the softest horsehair inside. So we were going for that graphic element mixed with the organic nature of the images we were seeing.

tFS: If you could be anywhere on Earth right now, where would it be?

CC and MO: The beach! Not any beach, but a hot beach.

tFS: What was your favorite piece from the collection?

MO: I think definitely the high slit backless long gown.

CC: That’s kind of my favorite too. Also, the fur coat. I did love the dress Riley (Montana) was wearing, the white dress that comes out on one side with the mesh underlay.

tFS: How are you surviving this cold weather?

CC: Fur. Loads of it. I’ve got a giant fur scarf and my fur coat, I’m not ashamed.

MO: Same! I’ve got two coats and my fur wraparound.
