When news first broke that Tommy Hilfiger would be collaborating with Zendaya and showing at Paris Fashion Week, we knew we were in for something special. Our first clue about what to expect was back in October when Tommy Hilfiger unveiled a Zendaya x Tommy Hilfiger logo on Instagram with disco-era color schemes and motifs in the background. So it was no surprise that the runway was a colorfully lit dance floor and as models walked down the runway, disco classics played in the background.

Following the format of his previous collaborations with model Gigi Hadid, the Spring 2019 show was a see-now-buy-now affair. The collection was inspired by a pivotal moment in fashion in 1973 when five American designers wanted to compete on the world stage with French designers. Halston, Bill Blass, Stephen Burrows, Oscar de la Renta and Anne Klein held a joint show to compete with French designers Yves Saint Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Cardin and Christian Dior. The face-off was called the Battle of Versailles Fashion Show, with each designer showcasing eight designs.

For the Tommy x Zendaya show, Zendaya cast only black models, including Pat Cleveland, who appeared in the Battle of Versailles Fashion Show. Joining her was Grace Jones, Beverly Johnson and Veronica Webb, alongside some of today’s most in-demand models.

“Zendaya dreamed up the show concept. She has participated in every design meeting we’ve held. She’s been incredibly active, and she has really great taste. She has 73 million followers, and since she was a Disney star they are quite young and growing up very well with her. It’s a very exciting project,” Hilfiger told FashionNetwork.com.

The actress has always been an outspoken advocate for inclusivity as seen in her online presence and she has brought that to the runway and her collection. Check out the full collection above and shop your favorites before they sell out at tommy.com.
