There are certain important dates on the fashion calendar. Even during a pandemic. Obviously, the spring and fall seasons are big deals. So are the haute couture shows. But the pre-fall lineups don’t always get the same level of respect. (Heck, the resort offerings usually receive higher billing.) Now that the Pre-Fall 2021 collections have mostly dropped, it’s evident brands are using the platform to make a statement.

From not-so-basic basics to red carpet-worthy gowns, there’s lots to love. Brands pretty much stuck to their comfort zones. Chanel reworked its classic silhouettes and offered plenty of tweed. Salvatore Ferragamo delivered really good leather goods. And Etro gave us more of its unique boho aesthetic that never gets old.

Some lesser-known labels really upped their game. Staud played with patchwork patterns and stripes not to mention cut-outs. Petar Petrov gave a master class in draping. While Simon Miller supplied loungewear that still makes us feel like we’re getting dressed up.
