Watch: The Story of Christian Dior’s Cruise 2024 Show in Mexico

Christian Dior’s YouTube channel is one of the best on the video sharing website. Period. Blessing us with awe-inspiring behind-the-scenes footage and fascinating savior-faire videos from the Paris ateliers of the fabled French fashion house – we regularly find ourselves obsessing over Dior’s uploads.

An in-depth look at Christian Dior’s Cruise 2024 collection shown in Mexico is one of the latest to be uploaded, which introduces us to the communities that worked on the collection. Maria Grazia Chiuri whisked the fashion pack off to Mexico City back in May, staging the show on location at Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, the alma mater of famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. The Italian creative director collaborated with local designers on the ground in Mexico, in order to showcase the country’s traditional techniques, cultural practices and exceptional craftsmanship. As a result, models paraded a collection of airy crisp white shirts, tiered skirts, traditional huipil tops and embroidered bar jackets – complete with a series of white cotton dresses boasting words of protest rounding out the show.

Back in May, the collection caused great divide amongst our forum members. “Lots of absolutely gorgeous clothes but I must say it’s a bit boring for me. I was expecting a little more.” [Mutterlein]

“It’s mediocre. Nothing is exciting. It’s either frumpy, ill fitting or culturally-in-your-face-inspired. Not one single piece is amazing. Maybe the white coat but they had to add that cheap a** looking belt. MGC hasn’t designed anything unique or original since she started at Dior. ANYTHING.” [WAVES]

“As safe as MGC’s clothes are, I really find it hard to find fault with a consistent designer whose clothes resonate with a real woman and real customer base. My only complaint with Dior is the extraordinary cost and negative environmental impact that is being accrued with these mega-shows in these far-off places. Is it not enough to show in Pairs, why spend such absurd amounts of money to fly the masses to a location just for press?” [Fulton St Critique]

“Just a bunch of stiff chiffon dresses this time with Mexican-themed embroidery.” [Nimsay]

“The presentation is poetic, but the clothes is tragic as usual!” [JohannesL]
