CROP THAT MOP

You’d be hard pressed not to notice that more and more women seem to be taking the plunge and doing away with their tresses recently. This trend, like most, seems to cycle through periods of time. From the very popular pixie cuts of the 60’s donned by icons such as Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn, to the more hard-edged cropped hairdo’s of the 80’s and 90’s a la Grace Jones and Linda Evangelista, for instance, cropped cuts have made a full resurgence.

If you’re feeling the itch and are thinking of getting a new look for yourself, there is plenty of inspiration around from the streets, to the runways and all the way to Hollywood.

Short hair is fast on the rise amongst celebrity starlets but primarily in the form of different variations of the classic Vidal Sasoon-esque bob, as can most notably be seen on former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham. In the early 90’s many celebrities rocked multiple variations of short cuts but in recent years, we’ve seen a pretty standard uniform of long, layered and highlighted hair oh women. One celebrity who stands out is R+B sensation, Rihanna, who’s currently sporting a very short, cropped cut. It’s more than refreshing to see someone step out of the mundane mold of what’s widely considered to be sexy. Not to say long hair isn’t gorgeous and alluring, but it is always great to see high-profile people take risks.

Where this trend seems to be the utmost prominent, however, is on the catwalks in the last couple of seasons. Model heavyweights such as Agyness Deyn, Anja Rubik, Freja Beha Erichson, Milagros Schmoll and Cecilia Mendez, to name a few, all have chopped locks.

Seeing these girls strut down the runway is exciting as it helps to further break the walls of conventionality and in turn, help to change how beauty is perceived.
