LOUIS VUITTON AND COMME DES GARCONS PREVIEW

Louis Vuitton and Comme des Garcons will be collaborating come fall when the two fashion powerhouses join forces and open an impermanent store in Tokyo. The shop will operate over a 3 month period beginning September 4th and offer six one-off bags designed by Comme founder Rei Kawakubo in the Louis Vuitton signature monogram pattern.

Louis Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs has been quoted as saying “It is impossible to overstate Rei Kawakubo’s influence on modern fashion. I find it wonderful to think that 30 years ago, this immense talent, someone who has inspired so many others, was inspired by Louis Vuitton.”

A photo preview was just released revealing one of the handbags slated to be part of the collection. It seems like a difficult bag to wear comfortably. That said, one must certainly respect the innovation Kawakubo brings to the famed LV print in the same way that Murakami has in the past. Both Kawakubo and Murakami’s pieces are more collector’s items than pieces one would roam the streets wearing.
