WEARDROBE: CLOSET OF THE WEEK – Quirky, but Ladylike

Check out Rebecca’s blog “The Clothes Horse” and her profile on

Q:  Where do you live?
A: I regularily attend college in Pennsylvania, my parents just moved to Washington State, and I’m about to leave for a study abroad in Athens, Greece. I’m a military brat so I’ve bounced around to a new home every three years since I was born.
Q.  What is your occupation?
A: I’m currently a full-time student and I work part time as a cashier in a campus store–I’ve got to work to afford my shopping habits!
Q:  How old are you?
A: I’m 21.

Q:  Describe your style.
A: I use the phrase “quirky lady” to describe my style. I’m usually a bit ladylike, but hopefully with a touch of eccentricity to make things more interesting. Mostly I consider my style a work in progress–I want to continue changing, adapting and experimenting with what I wear. Ideally I’m seeking a more “edgy” look.
Q: Who are your favorite designers?
A: I adore Christian Lacroix and Alexander McQueen perhaps the most. Lately, Rodarte and Givenchy have been catching my eye. I like Rodarte’s zombie ballerinas and Givenchy’s hardcore femme fatales.
Q:  What is one item in your closet that you couldn’t live without?
A: My tan zippered, moto-esque jacket from Urban Outfitters. I wanted it for months, but it cost too much and then one day I went to the store and it was 80% off! I’ve worn it so many times the color has faded and changed, but I love it still.
Q:  What is the most embarassing item in your closet?
A: Lots of cheap message tees, probably the worst reads “I Love Hawaii”–it’s terrible because I lived in Hawaii but I bought that t-shirt on the mainland in a chain store…
Q:  If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be?

A: I would raid tons of peoples’ closets if I had the chance! But if I’m limited to one, I’d say Sofia Coppola; her style choices are always a little offbeat and quirky.
