Interview: How Musician KLP Gets Practical with Style On-Stage, Dream Collaborations and More

Kristy Lee Peters, more fondly known by her musical moniker KLP, might be a DJ, singer, producer and triple j’s House Party host, but the ultimate slashie has also got the style thing down pat. Don’t worry, she’s not about to sacrifice her freedom to move around and kill it on-stage for the sake of fashion, though.

“It’s hard because I love high heels and I love dressing up,” she tells theFashionSpot, counting labels like Bec & Bridge, Camilla and Marc and Finders Keepers as her faves.

She explains that she has to forfeit this look during her sets, and not just because heels are freakin’ dangerous. KLP tells us that her height also steers her away from sky-scraping stilettos.

“It’s not a good thing, especially for me because I’m quite tall. Practically I’m just way too tall for the decks,” she explains, also noting that she wore heels while dancing on-stage once and fell over.

She also shies aways from jackets and layers in general while performing because perspiration can really take over while impressing a crowd. “It gets so sweaty, so you can’t really wear much,” she tells us. “I might have a cool jacket but two songs in I’m like ‘argh, this is way too hot, I can’t wear it any more’.”

Thankfully she can wear some clothes and still manage to stay dry, though, and is looking to emerging local label Any Step for her Aussie tour with Goldfields kicking off this Friday, June 19. You might remember the leather bondage-inspired pieces from the MBFWA Raffles showcase earlier this year.

And while she’s super excited to be on tour with Goldfields over the next six weeks, KLP mentions Skrillex as the most exciting person she’s ever worked with.

Her “ultimate” dream would be to collaborate with someone like Pharell, though, “because he’s Pharrell,” duh, or SBTRKT or Madonna. Although she thinks the latter will never happen, she says, given the chance, she’ll sing whatever Madonna wants her too. Because, bitches, she’s Madonna.
