Fascinating: 10 (Way) Out-There Hats from Royal Ascot 2013

The British love using any kind of excuse to raise their fashion stakes and get all dressed up, and no excuse comes finer than in the form of a day out at the races. June is all about Royal Ascot, one of the most prestigious racing events on the high society calendar, which is therefore often frequented by members of the royal family.

Those attending Royal Ascot, however, must abide by an extremely strict dress code, with it being compulsory for women to wear a dress accessorized with a hat. Plus, there are even rules regulating the length and style of the dress, which does unfortunately dampen the whole fashion credibility of the event and makes you wonder why it’s still a little stuck in the dark ages.

Outfits never come more extravagant than on Ladies Day itself, when there’s a real sense of rivalry amongst the women and their chosen ensembles. This year’s Royal Ascot has been no exception, and we’ve seen quite the eclectic mix of creative hats and avant-garde fascinators. So, as the event draws to an end, here are some of the most interesting looks that have been on show this year.
