Show Some Skin with Summer’s Barely-There Makeup

Now that summer is here (whether the weather is willing to admit it or not), it’s time to lighten up your beauty routine. Habits are hard to break, but after a long winter of wearing full coverage foundation and bold lips, it’s time to brighten it up with jelly textures and light coverage. If you’re not willing to take the plunge right away, try to integrate sheer products into your routine one step at a time.

Lighten Up

Lighten up your base by switching from a full foundation to a tinted moisturizer, such as Josie Maran’s Argan Tinted Moisturizer ($38), which infuses the properties of argan and pomegranate oils with a light coverage and natural SPF 30. If you’re looking to jump on the BB cream train, try skincare superhero REN’s Satin Perfection BB Cream Sunscreen ($38). Too many women avoid sheer bases because they think they need a heavy base to cover acne, pigmentation or uneven tone. No one wants to look like they’re wearing a mask, especially in the summer, so fear not and work with a good pairing of base and concealer. Don’t be afraid to use a sheer texture on most of your skin, even if you have problem areas, because it’s better to cover with concealer than foundation. You’ll look less made up and hold up better in the sun.

Add Warmth

If you’re looking pale after the winter, try Tarte’s Bronze & Glow Cheek Tint ($32), which not only gives a soft glow but also adds a bit of much needed warmth into the skin. If you’re looking for a more traditional flush, we love Givenchy’s Blush Gelee – Jelly Blush in Croisière Coral ($34) or Josie Maran’s Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee ($22) which both offer sheer blendable color that lasts all day.

Pucker Up

For those even more skeptical of sheer textures, the easiest way to go is with a lip color. We love Dior’s Addict Lip Glow ($30) which is a sheer pink gloss that enhances the natural color of your lips. Perfect for a summer day.
