Shu Uemura’s Kakuyasu Uchiide on Top Makeup Trends at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2015

We caught up with Kakuyasu Uchiide (just Uchiide in the beauty biz) at Tsumori Chisato, his last show of Paris Fashion Week, and the Shu Uemura international creative director isn’t stopping there. He’s jetting off to Tokyo Fashion Week to help create beauty looks for young, up-and-coming designers, including Japanese designer-to-watch Yasutoshi Ezumi. We asked him about his favorite trends and what his secret is for looking and feeling “plein de vie” (or, “full of life” as the French say).

theFashionSpot: What makeup trends are you excited about right now?

Uchiide: Youthful skin is the look this season, but it’s not the dewy skin we saw seasons ago—it’s more matte, like a fine, translucent powder. I’m creating these using skin:FIT, it’s inspired by traditional geisha makeup but created to give full coverage with a sheer effect on the skin. (Editor’s note: skin:FIT is a new Shu Uemura foundation due out in June.)

tFS: What about for lips and eyes?

Uchiide: The lip is a glossy red lip without sparkle. Not a matte red like we’ve seen in previous seasons. The new eye look this season is a classic cat eye but using different textures: glitter, color instead of just black without any additions. The natural brow is trending with a not-so-structured and bold look. It’s much softer.

tFS: How do you keep looking and feeling your best during Fashion Week?

Uchiide: I actually use some of our Shu Uemura skincare, it keeps me as awake as I possibly can be!
