Breakout Model Tarlisa Gaykamangu Fronts Vogue Australia’s September 2023 Issue

Christine Centenera has been at the helm of Vogue Australia since March 2023, and kick-started her tenure by welcoming Hailey Beiber as cover girl. Six months later (with Adut Akech and Margot Robbie covers in between), Centenera’s first September issue as editor has dropped. In a continued effort to make bold moves, Centenera welcomes Yolngu woman and model Tarlisa Gaykamangu onto the magazine’s most important issue of the year for September 2023. Following a widely-celebrated modeling debut at Matthieu Blazy’s Fall 2023 Bottega Veneta show during Milan Fashion Week, Gaykamangu now makes her Vogue cover debut via the lens of Robbie Fimmano and is dressed for the momentous occasion by stylist Petta Chua in Miu Miu.

The members of our forums, however, felt the outcome could’ve been somewhat better. “This is depressing,” stated caioherrero the moment the cover surfaced.

“JESUS… Tragic!” exclaimed DK92.

“NOPE! You look at this and you feel sad, tired, and it’s soooooo depressing. From her eyes, to the pose, to the gloomy colors : it’s so NOT a good cover and even worse choice for September,” complained Bertrando3.

Avonlea002 was also left unimpressed, commenting: “Everything about it screams amateur.”

“Why is the photo so dark?” asked Simera. “Like she posed with a light behind her, not in front. Because I see the light on her shoulder, just not her face or the rest of her body – just the shoulder.”
