Kim & Kanye: A Fashion Love Story as Told Through Emoji

It’s a story as old as time. Young couple meets, falls in love, vows to take over the fashion world one naked magazine cover and buzzy fashion show at a time. The story of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s thrust into the limelight is one for the ages and on World Emoji Day, what better way to tell the tale than with emoji? Below, for your enjoyment, highlights of Kim and Kanye’s rise to fashion prominence as told through emoji.

Kim and Kanye appear together at Kanye’s fashion show during Paris Fashion Week in 2012. At the time, the pair was described as “good friends,” but we all knew something else was afoot. We just didn’t know what a pop culture firestorm it would become.

Soon after, Kanye releases the song “Cold,” in which he says “I’ll admit, I had fell in love with Kim/ around the same time she had fell in love with him.” Him is Kris Humphries, whom Kim was married to for 72 days in 2010. So it was clear that Kanye had been crushing on Kim for years.

Once their relationship was official, fashionisto Kanye decides Kim needs a makeover and chucks all of her old clothes (with the help of stylist Renelou Padora). The purging of Kimmy’s closet is documented for all the world to see on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

After getting rid of Kim’s old junk, the transformation begins. Kim starts wearing sleek, Kanye-approved silhouettes and neutral colors. She gets herself a high fashion wardrobe and is a new woman. Kanye is pleased.

Kim gets pregnant and wears lots of uncomfortable-looking footwear. Her pregnancy style naturally makes headlines.

In an interview with BBC Radio1’s Zane Lowe, Kanye has an epic sob story about how he and Virgil Abloh first brought the concept of leather jogging pants to Fendi, which rejected their ideas. “How many motherfuckers you done seen with a leather jogging pant?” he asked Lowe, clearly feeling a lot of feelings about his designs being hijacked.

Kim and Kanye get engaged.

Kanye expresses frustration that Kim has not appeared on the cover of Vogue yet, blaming industry overlords like Anna Wintour (you know, blonde hair, shades).

Kanye continues his outrage tour by slamming Nike for not letting him reach his full creative potential and not giving him enough money. Kanye announces that he is joining forces with Adidas.

Kim and Kanye get that Vogue cover! Kanye and his soon-to-be wife finally have the respect from the fashion world he felt they deserved all along.

Kimye finally gets married.

Kanye takes four days to edit a wedding photo so Kim can upload it to Instagram. It becomes the most-liked photo on the social media outlet (until Kendall Jenner came along and dethroned it).

Kimye and daughter North West hit up Paris Fashion Week. North expresses her displeasure with everything.

Kim puts all her ladybits on display for Paper magazine, breaks the Internet — and our collective ocular system.

Kanye shows his line for Adidas at New York Fashion Week. North once again is displeased with the fanfare of fashion shows.

Kanye meets Ralph Lauren. A love connection is made.

Kanye releases the Yeezy Boost 750 with Adidas. Hypebeasts gladly hand over money to their savior Yeezus.
